stats.nba.com
Does anyone know why ortg/drtg values are different on nba.com than on basketball-reference or nbawowy? Which source would have more accurate data on team and individual level?

Re: stats.nba.com
There are multiple different ways to estimate possessions, as outlined here:
http://nyloncalculus.com/2015/12/21/nyl ... ssessions/
From a technical perspective, the Basketball-Reference formula offers the closest estimates to our working definition of possessions. However, they're close enough that I wouldn't really say one is better or worse. The issue is largely in comparing ratings across sites (e.g. saying where a team's offensive rating from NBAwowy would rank on NBA.com/Stats).

Re: stats.nba.com
I will use 2 games as examples.
2013 finals game 1
http://stats.nba.com/game/#!/0041200401/advanced/
MIA 102.9 ortg
SAS 102..3 ortg
87.7 pace
(negative net for Spurs despite winning the game)
http://www.basketball-reference.com/box ... 60MIA.html
MIA 103.5 ortg
SAS 108.2 ortg
85.0 pace
If we will count possessions manually from play by play, then Miami had 86 poss, Spurs 84, so game pace 85 and ortgs exctly as b-r says.
UTA-HOU 16.11.19
http://stats.nba.com/game/#!/0021600184/
UTA 110.3 ortg
HOU 113.5 ortg
95.1 pace
http://www.basketball-reference.com/box ... 90HOU.html
UTA 111.2 ortg
HOU 121.1 ortg
91.7 pace
http://nbawowy-52108.onmodulus.net/purr ... 242adu0udi
(if I understand correctly nbawowy doesn’t use formulas for possessions, but takes data directly from play by play)
UTA 109.7 ortg
HOU 119.4 ortg
93.0 pace
So doesn't it look like something is wrong with stats.nba.com?

Re: stats.nba.com
As explained in the above link, using the stats.nba.com formula overestimates the number of possessions because it doesn't account for team offensive rebounds. In an individual game, that (as well as the estimate for free throw possessions that any estimator uses) mean the net ratings can get a little wonky. Over larger samples, they're likely to even out.

So lets look at larger samples. 2015/16 season:
76ers
wowy 100.0 ortg, 111.2 drtg, 96.8 pace
b-r 98.8 ortg, 109.2 drtg, 97.9 pace
nba.com 96.6 ortg, 106.7 drtg, 100.2 pace
Bucks
wowy 105.0 ortg, 109.3 drtg, 93.2 pace
b-r 104.3 ortg, 108.7 drtg, 94.2 pace
nba.com 102.2 ortg, 105.7 drtg, 96.6 pace
and so on. So it looks like nba.com's values are constantly less accurate than from b-r (assuming wowy uses pbp, so has real values).

2015/16 regular season:
0.7/0.6 vs 3.0/3.2 looks like significant difference, doesn't it?
