Defensive Win Shares Question

Could be wrong about this but I just have a quick question: seems as if Basketball Reference and the official NBA website both track defensive win shares but have different ways of calculating it. Now Basketball Reference explains theirs but the NBA, insofar as I can tell, does not. Does anyone know the latter's methodology and/or have an informed opinion re whose is better/more reliable/etc.? NBA.com has always seemed like a quagmire for stats. I managed to track down their DEF WS on this page:

They have STL% and %BLK, which are % of team's steals (or blocks). No reason given for putting the % sign fore or aft.
