Defensive Win Shares Question
Defensive Win Shares Question
Could be wrong about this but I just have a quick question: seems as if Basketball Reference and the official NBA website both track defensive win shares but have different ways of calculating it. Now Basketball Reference explains theirs but the NBA, insofar as I can tell, does not. Does anyone know the latter's methodology and/or have an informed opinion re whose is better/more reliable/etc.? Thanks very much.
Re: Defensive Win Shares Question
NBA.com has always seemed like a quagmire for stats. I managed to track down their DEF WS on this page:
http://stats.nba.com/players/defense/?s ... ode=Totals
They have STL% and %BLK, which are % of team's steals (or blocks). No reason given for putting the % sign fore or aft.
Some playoff Def-Rtg according to NBA.com and b-ref:These are just the top 10 in playoff minutes, by team. Any discernible pattern?
Draymond has 0.9 DWS at NBA.com and 1.1 at Bk-ref -- same minutes and DRtg
