This largely explains the over- and under-achieving teams thus far.

7 teams with 2 big improvers, 6 with 1, 17 with none.

Clippers and Kings with 6 moderate or more declines. 8 have 3-5 declines, including Thunder. So 20 have 2 or less.

Nobody slipped more than Cam Johnson. Shift in context probably has a significant role. Individual numbers on a bad team might change on new team. Could be down if usage falls without increased efficiency.

J Jackson slipped more here than Morant.

Other notable slips here include D Daniels, Mobley, D Green, Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Amen Thompson, Portis, Brunson, Gobert, Dort, F Wagner, Bane, M Williams, Sabonis, Camara and Carrington (worst Darko in league last season, only 6th worst now).


Different metrics and usages can offer different perspectives. Gobert falling here but still proected 19th on Darko projection because of #1 rank on defense. Mobley still expected to be 13th best despite the slip. Steven Adams not a notable improver here but improved a lot late last season on Darko and appears to have maintained it. 33rd best there. Not near as high on BPM.

Brunson is up in eWins rate; down ever so slightly in PER (21.6 - 21.4), WS/48 (.172 - .164), and BPM (3.3 - 3.2).
I feel all 3 of these undervalue him. He takes and makes tough/needed shots; last year won "clutch player of the year" -- playoffs concur.
His Pts/36 are up from 26.4 to career high 29.7; Reb from 2.9 to NY-high 3.8
