European and global league possibilities
Re: European and global league possibilities
If the EuroLeague decides to compete with NBA Europe, will they try to go head to head in some cities? On whose dimes? It could happen, especially in Paris.
Re: European and global league possibilities
I never hear about the women's Euroleague but it is out there.
At one time it may have had pay or at least top pay above WNBA or even now
but how will it stack up in near future with WNBA, UnRivaled, Project B and NCAA-W?

Re: European and global league possibilities
NBA said to be open to a WNBA Europe or a collaboration Women's Euroleague.
Re: European and global league possibilities
Bidding for franchise likely in Q1 2026.
Will they always take highest bid or consider other factors?

Re: European and global league possibilities
NBA Asia is another possibility.
Re: European and global league possibilities
Mark Tatum mentions possibility that every NBA Europe team might play in BCL? In addition to or instead of domestic leagues?
To reward FIBA?
That is something new to me.
The mention was a little vague but it could just be a first year tactic to increase fan exposure to the teams, especially the new ones.

Re: European and global league possibilities
NBA owners haven't officially approved the league plan yet but it is assumed a formality to happen.
Wildcard teams not expected to play in year 1. Financial considerations for them not ddisclosed. Assume zero or low media money? Pay a fee? Give up percentage of own revenue?

Re: European and global league possibilities
With regard to new european football media deals:
a "package for a small number of games that was intended to attract bids from a global streamer like Apple, Netflix or YouTube.
Sources close to the process, speaking anonymously as they have not been given permission to discuss this publicly, said bids did come in for the global package but they were not high enough to compensate for the reduced offers that the likes of Paramount and Amazon would make for the territorial deals."

Re: European and global league possibilities
How the bidding is conducted is important. All cities at once or stepwise? How many rounds, how transparent? Who is the ultimate decisionmaker? What will governments do before and after?
Re: European and global league possibilities
Bidding to start before or way before a media deal??
It is chicken and egg problem, but I would not want to bid before a media deal or adjustment based on eventual media deal revenue split or an opt-out. NBA unlikely to offer any of these things unless it gets a bad bidding response.

Re: European and global league possibilities
TNT Sports in Europe lost out on recent biggest new soccer media deals. There is probably plenty of opportunities below the top level but losing what they had presumably hurts significantly.
Does that make basketball more important to / likely for them?

Re: European and global league possibilities
I presume NBA Europe would try to get as many players for $500k to $1.5 million as possible, from Euroleague and the new pipeline to NCAA. The balance between them I as hard to guess but will be important for fan reaction and competition with remaining Eurloeague.
How much they will go for $3mil, $5 mil, $10 mil players from NBA is unknown.
Whether they will pull players out of NCAA or direct from high school is also unknown. If not banned with an age limit, it could happen.
Contract buyout rules will interesting. Make it easy or hard for NBA to buy them out / take them?
Probably mentioned the issue of assignments before but to other european leagues and from NBA are different types.

Re: European and global league possibilities
the "...entrance fee, as sources told BasketNews, already includes arena construction – meaning if a club needs a new building, it's folded into that price, not added on top of it"
This would be a huge new detail... if true.
How much are they expecting to spend on european arenas? 100% offset or some or way less?

Re: European and global league possibilities
To put things financial health and investment feasibility in perspective "... Fenerbahce's debt reportedly reached €588 million ... And that's one of the biggest brands on the continent."
Financial conditions may vary but the majority or supermajority are not "good".
Probably creating a preference for new owners wherever possible or necessary.

Re: European and global league possibilities
In soccer / football, it was said again to explain the failure of the 1st pick global digital media package to sell:
"There’s also little evidence of fans wanting to watch teams from outside their own countries..."
Will NBA Europe find a global partner on mutually acceptable terms or have to deal country by country?
Will fans be reluctant to pay to watch other countries, be reluctant to pay to watch teams besides their traditional local teams and often in games outside their traditional rivals?
The NBA presumes that they can get many fans but how will the fans actually react? How many new european fans are really out there to be captured?
Has there been any independent survey research? Is the NBA sharing its internal market data with potential partners? In broad brushstrokes or full detail?
