European and global league possibilities
Re: European and global league possibilities
Expected talks being held today or tomorrow?
Productive?
Will either side break them off?

Re: European and global league possibilities
Euroleague could move forward with designating permanent franchises. That would be their strongest move, if every team accepts.
How much more talk are they willing to have ith NBA without meaningful progress?
Sale or even proposed sale of a London franchise would be bold.

Re: European and global league possibilities
There are probably outside bids for Spanish and German cities but none hinted at in the press so far. Any credible challengers?
Greek and Turkish commentary has been focused on existing clubs.
After early talk of competition for Manchester, I did not hear any recent updates.
Most of the talk is about London, Paris and Milan.
A little talk about Rome and Napoli.

Re: European and global league possibilities
No signs of active talk of sale of NBA Europe media rights but how much may have occured? Even before NBA media rights deal with those partners? Is it really all spec at this point? It sounds like it but not sure.
Re: European and global league possibilities
Project B Women's announces stops in China and Spain in addition to Japan.
Does not appear to be going anywhere in the Americas.
4 more stops to name. France, UK, middle east, one more in Asia?
Going heavy on lifestyle tie-ins.
Nothing new said about Men's tour.
Ticket prices and sales will be interesting to see. Age & income of buyers?
How many games per team per stop? 4 or more? Multiple same day games at arenas or multiple venues?

Re: European and global league possibilities
Have the football clubs with state or speculated interest in NBA Europe project had significant conversations with EuroLeague? With each other? With their football leagues?
I would assume so, but haven't heard about these conversations.
Have to assess long-term impact of prospective rise of europeam basketball on football. Have to decide whether to act independently or jointly for leverage.
How many general strategies have been considered? How do they rank?

Re: European and global league possibilities
Did the leagues meet yesterday, today or tomorrow? Intense or low-key?
Re: European and global league possibilities
EuroLeague reportedly receives interest to join from 10 new clubs. Formal review to begin in July for possible expansion at later time. No change in league size for '26-27 season.
Re: European and global league possibilities
"Fenerbahce agreed to sign the 10-year license with the EuroLeague."
Still waiting on others including Real Madrid. Some say the deadline was today, some say it could go to June 30 or possibly beyond.

Re: European and global league possibilities
One source now says the meeting of NBA and Euroleague was pushed back to April 28. The calendar keeps flipping into future.
Re: European and global league possibilities
Supersonic airplanes might make inter-continental basketball a little easier.
But it is probably being mentioned at this time to try to hype NBA Europe franchise bids.
If there were a European team or division in the NBA 7-10 day trips could be utilized and saving an hour or two 2 flights would seem of pretty marginal impact. All the prep of a trip before and after the flight is a pretty big part of the time spent. The physiological, psychological, social impact of shifting to another continent/ culture would be far more consequential than flight time. The timezone shift is more significant for the players, broadcast and fans.
European games would need to be on weekends to be seen at a reasonable afternoon time to be seen live in US. US games would need to start late to be seen at reasonable afternoon time in Europe.
So the European trip schedule might be travel Wed. or Thurs., play Saturday, Wed., Saturday, Sunday, travel Monday, play Wed. or Thursday. If wanted to play Tuesday and Thursday instead of Wednesday, they could.
Not absolutely every game would have to be seen live on both continents. A non-live condensed broadcast could be acceptable in a long regular season.

Re: European and global league possibilities
NBA has a proposal. To date nothing has clearly changed. Has a stated desire to work with Eurolegue. But will they yield on any point? When, what?
Euroleague has a stated desire to work with NBA. But so far not agreed to the NBA proposal and appears in disagreement with every major element. What if anything are they willing to tentatively agree to? Will they present demands or a full proposal?
If there is no progress on Tuesday, will there be ever?
Will they keep meeting or will one or both sides call it off- for real or as a temporary tactic?
Will any teams be there? Probably not.
Is FIBA just along for the ride or will they try to mediate, offer a compromise?
What happens next if Euroleague walks away and affirms plan to remain separate and revives legal threats for tampering?
So far no team has endorsed the NBA plan as stated or been accepted. When / if will a team actually jump?
If somebody offered franchise fees of $250-400 million over 2-5 payments would the other side accept?
NBA rake of 25-30% of media revenue? Less if under-dwlivers on amount?
How many EuroLeague teams have to gain entrance for league to support the plan? All of them? 50-75%? Sell out south east europe?
What about management structure? NBA executive with total power or a 3-5 person board for policy decisions and some restraints on the executive?
Any language that NBA must invest some % of franchise fees and media revenue in operations and marketing fir some period of time?
Any pathway for a team to exit or exit with a refund or partial refund? After how many years? Terms?
Minimum media revenue circuitbreaker?
Which are the 1st priorities of each? Lower priorities if any?
If they eventually agree on major elements, will they agree on implementation timeline?
What is the realistic deadline for a deal to start fall 2027?
How will european governments or select officials react after Tuesday?
What policy interests will player organization(s) eventually raise and will any cause trouble?
As Euroleague moves to franchise model, will existing owners sell out? And then what? Moves? Unlikely, but could anyone try to own teams in both leagues?
Could anyone try to crash from bystander team or potential team to active participant in the landscape debate / design?
Will any deal the Euroleague might accept win necessary club votes? How many is that?
Will there be a tentative media arrangement prior to final sign-off by those involved?
Will domestic leagues feel helped, neutral or disadvantaged? When do they find out / act?
Existing player contracts remain in force or subject to change? Agreements with arenas and sponsors remain as is or altered to NBA desires? Rising expectations of partners to get "more" like everybody else?
Has NBA and advisors wargamed every detail or is a lot unsettled?
How much will team owners be allowed to borrow or take in as minority stake investments?
Are buyers willing to bid and commit one market at a time or will everything be contingent on seeing the whole and "the fairness" of the whole?
Will any buyers offer ironclad promises of new or substantially enhanced arenas, that they can actual deliver on? Penalties?
Continue to ignore Project B or try to block access to arenas where NBA Europe partners have control or influence?
Could Europe Cup and / or BCL teams join with left out Euroleague teams or independently try to step up in importance?
How many fans will actually turn out or tube in how quick?
Will some football teams get involved? Whether they do or not, what will the majority or all do in face of a heightened competitor? Nothing? Threaten media partners? Tey to further dominate scgeduling? Snipe thru the media?Support a rival of whatever kind to NBA Europe?
What are the stage by stage measures of success or even survival?
How much do governments (local or national) control access to arenas? Have willingness to upgrade?
When will we hear about team budgets, overall and for rosters, minimums and maximums? What quality tier of player will star / start / fill out rosters? Isn't everything before that contingent on that?
The NCAA will certainly have impact and may be impacted. Project B might both ways.
What about the Russians? Turks and Chinese and others? Now or later. There are various forms of potential alliances.
So many details and variables. A saga.

Not clear to me if Silver will be there. Probably not.

Re: European and global league possibilities
"There are suggestions, unconfirmed at this stage, that the deadline for binding bids for NBA Europe franchises has been set for the end of May. That raises the prospect of investors having to commit before they know whether the new league will have a direct rival or not."
Before any reality on media deal, other teams, salary cap, arena commitments, etc.
No sign either side has altered their fundamental positions.
