Kings historic offense fell to 11th best in playoffs. Lakers defensive efficiency went to 2nd best. Guess at shares of responsibility.
Griz, Cavs, Nets were 14th to 16th on offensive efficiency. None are going to change Coach but should look hard at lineups, play-calling and rosters.
No team was truly outstanding so far on both sides of ball.
Overall, ts%, offensive efficiency and pace all fell from regular season. Quality of teams should raise and lower that. Evenly? I dunno. Maybe not.

Correlation of various metrics to player minutes: ...
I'd have concern about the Celtics absolute bottom number. Strong benches will help produce a low number ...
There was great variation in the Celts' minutes/value correlations.
Code: Select all
. Celtics Min PER WS/48 BPM e480
Jayson Tatum 237 20.9 .140 3.1 1.80
Jaylen Brown 227 17.8 .070 -0.7 1.27
Al Horford 196 12.7 .123 3.2 .72
Derrick White 196 18.1 .162 3.1 1.13
Marcus Smart 186 20.1 .174 3.4 1.39
Malcolm Brogdon 156 15.5 .107 -1.8 .87
Robert Williams 137 20.2 .213 4.1 1.14
Sam Hauser 63 9.2 .104 -1.2 -.05
Grant Williams 36 20.8 .260 7.4 .79
correl. w min. .24 -.50 -.20 .73
If you agree with WS that J Brown is the weak link, or that players who have fewer missed shots and turnovers are your best players, then you could conclude the coaching is wack.
If you value overall productivity, then the minutes distribution looks pretty sound.
Last night, Celts dominated in shooting% and rebounds, and they still lost. The 2:1 turnover ratio would not seem to offset all else, and it appears the Team Rebounds were also in favor of Philly.

Bucks in playoffs:
2 lineups near 6 min /gm. Both around +10. Then 5 of next 6 small and mostly horribly negative. Ridiculous 80 lineups used instead of greater concentration on very best performers. A new, not been used in playoffs lineup at an average of EVERY 3 minutes (along with some repeats). Only 1 lineup used every game and just 5 in more than 2.
Lopez negative in all 5 of his biggest minute pairs, with time with Giannis being the worst and quite awful.

Devin Booker last night with his best playoff GmSc yet, w highest BPM in this postseason.
He now has 3 of the 5 best games this year.
It's the 21st highest GmSc ever and knocks his previous best out of the top 25.

See the OP for details.
Booker had played 409 NBA games, almost 14,000 minutes before he ever got into a playoff game. Career rates so far:

Thanks for raising this data again, which to my knowledge has never been highlighted or now discussed by any other basketball media.
Jordan still has best Game Score in regular season but only 2 in top 20 to Harden's 3.
Jordan 2 in top 20 in playoffs but Barkley has 3 and the higher best.
Bryant with 1 in top 20 rs, none in playoffs. James, 1 each. Durant 1 in rs, none in playoffs.
Perimeters with 70% of both top 20s.
13 of top 20 rs in last 7 years. Eras matter on rules and officiating and talent development, through maybe less in playoffs- just 6 of top 20 in last 7 years.
Jordan and Lillard tied with 4 in rs and playoffs combined for period covered. Only 8 with 2 plus. The top games are really high and hare for even the greats to reach
Overall a lot of reason to think highly of now players.
Surprisingly only 1 Jordan playoff game in top 10 and it was only one in group associated with a title winner that season and a bit more than half of the stars with such games never won a title. Team game. This last detail / observation is the most important.
Less "important" but still notable is the general phobia of the basketball media with using / discussing available metrics. Maybe better in 5-10-20 years? Whatever.

Jordan with about 10% lead on James for best playoff career BPM. James with about a 40% lead by VORP.
Jokic a close 3rd by BPM. Curry only 8th.
Superstars more valuable for their floor, median and upper half or quarter than absolute max games.

Booker with .872 / 36-6-12 misses another, likely due to 5 TO.
This postseason is closing in on becoming the most prolific ever in top-100 GmSc; already #1 in top-50's.
Joker's one other top100 was also a loss, to SAS in 2019. His 3 'biggest' games this year are the 3 the Nuggets have lost.
His 10 highest Usg% in career playoff games have resulted in just one Win, in game 2 of this Phx series.

Thru 5 games of the 2nd round, Booker and Jokic are #1-2 in both VORP and Win Shares, and by wide margins.
With Butler, they're 1-3 in WS/48 and PER (but JImmy lags in BPM).
https://www.basketball-reference.com/pl ... anced.html
Durant and J Murray are strong #2's throughout the series. From the WC Rd2 thread, here are their total eWins after each game so far:
Code: Select all
Gm Jokic Murray J+M B+D Booker Durant
1 .19 .23 .42 .29 .13 .16

5 1.41 .63 2.04 1.84 1.02 .82
6 1.76 .81 2.57 1.90 1.01 .89
After 4 games, Book+KD had caught up to the Denver duo.
By individual game, it looks like this:
Code: Select all
Gm Jok Mur J+M B+D Book KD
1 .19 .23 .42 .29 .13 .16
2 .37 .05 .42 .31 .19 .12

5 .31 .11 .42 .22 .12 .10
6 .35 .18 .53 .06 -.01 .07
That's some shocking consistency on the left.
These 4 guys account for 3.9 of 5 total wins!
EDIT -- Game 6 added.
Murkic saved their best for last. BooKD peaked Gm3, faded to black.

Celtics, Heat and Lakers have each used 70-85 lineups so far on playoffs. Nuggets That's 6-8 new ones every game. At this point in the season? Nuggets at about 40.
Coaches are constantly trying for specific advantages against specific lineups or responding to threats and it may seem hard to break that cycle, but this puts the average lineup use per game at not that much more than 1/2 minute for the first 3 and not that much more than 1 minute for Nuggets.
The conference finalst each have just 1-2 lineups used over 50 minutes.
Over 1000 total lineups used in playoffs so far, with nearly all being dinks. Barely over 40% of all lineups were cumulatively positive.
Heat with 4 of 8 best player pairs over 50 minutes. Lakers and Nuggets with 2 in top 20. Celtics barely one. Heat 7 in top 50, Lakers 8, Nuggets 8.
Celtics just 5. Lineup management might bite them despite the very strong overall talent profile.
9 of 10 best performing Celtics trios over 50 minutes have Brogdon all the time. 4 each specify Smart, Brown and Tatum. Less for everybody else. Brogdon 6th on minutes per game at under 28. Room to increase... or possibly regret not doing so.

The minutes played by available Heat players were, in sum, just average BPM in the regular season. Thru 2 rounds, they've averaged about 1.3*4.33 = 5.6 pts/100 better.
A +5.6 SRS over 82 games should be about 54-28 W-L.
