6th Man 2024

Post by Mike G »

There are currently 79 players who have played 1000 minutes and started fewer than half their games.
Here they are ranked by an xyz which is the cube root of 3 factors:
- Sum of their raw Pts+Reb+Ast+Stl+Blk-TO
- This total per game (T)
- Same per 36 minutes

A bunch of guys could get this one. Nobody leads in more than one factor.
It often goes to the Pts/G leader, but Clarkson is having a pretty bad year by every measure.

In productions per minute, Andre Drummond ranks behind Embiid, Doncic, Jokic, Giannis, Shai, Wemby, Davis, Sabonis, LeBron, Tatum, Haliburton, Mitchell, Sengun, and Booker.

The more casual voters will go heavily for Clarkson and Monk, primarily based on pts / gm. Reid should get some votes, but the Darko projection vote would be for Portis by a mile (+2 to tiny fractions).

Using other summary stats -- and a few more games' data -- the same 20 guys rearrange quite differently.
PER and BPM *minutes are converted to pWins and bWins, averaged with Win Shares.

Code: Select all

xyzW 6th man Tm min PER WS/48 BPM pW WS bW

Everyone has 3-4 games remaining, and it's doubtful I will update this.
Jordan Clarkson's WS/48 and BPM indicate almost zero wins.
Since previous post, Naz Reid has averaged 31 minutes, 19 pts, 8 reb, .439 from the arc.

Good selection of candidates. Probably between Reid and Hart. Hart would barely qualify as a 6th man and not for everybody.

M Wagner is very low profile. Will be interesting what happens next for him.

Olynyk, pretty good but on low end of his career. Turnovers are quite high.

Kessler 10th here, despite being a down season. Wonder what is next.
