2013-2014 Top sixty players

Post by DickMays »

I took the player rankings from 5 sources, Magic Metric( product of per game and per minute rating), PER, eff, xRAPM, and CBS.
Threw out the high and low ranking for each player, averaged the position and ranked accordingly.

Thanks for this effort.
It appears MM likes guards more than the others, bigs not so much.
What is CBS? Chris Paul at #43 ?

CBS seems to penalize players that have missed a lot of games due to injury.

I was going to do a top 100 list, but got really, really tired last night, lol.

MM uses only box stats, and I think everyone agrees that the box doesn't value defensive presence enough. Maybe one reason the bigs don't get enough love. But I do believe the MM gets the relative value of box stats closer than the others. Paper here: http://www.upct.es/~beside/Textos/MagicMetric.pdf

You can find some Magic Metric videos on youtube as well.

I'm thinking maybe the CBS one shouldn't be there.

I wonder if a person is making $$ creating that metric for CBS?

Many call Westbrook a top 5-10 player. He may have been last season but not this season by this average or my own review / opinion. And not yet in these playoffs.

How fierce and how high will the free agent bidding for Bledsoe? What is the right price for someone of his talent and avg rank of near 40? Same basic deal with Isiah Thomas, though he is ranked higher here (in contradiction to what I believe is the conventional wisdom / likely response of GMs) What is Faried worth to Denver going forward knowing that his payday will raise a lot fairly soon vs. what they might be able to get in trade and the relative value of that over the next 2-5 year measurement period?

So your other metrics are on a per minute/possession basis, but that one is not. I would convert that one to a per minute metric like the others. Otherwise you're comparing unlike things.
