Nets' personnel history

Post by Mike G »

Over at b-r.com, get to a team's Franchise Index page, like this one:
https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/NJN/
They have teams' all-time top 12 Win Shares leaders. At #1 for the Nets, a guy who's picture I did not recognize -- Buck Williams, whose 62.8 WS tops their list.

On a very rainy day, I went thru all 30 teams and, sure enough, they all have at least 2 players with more WS for that franchise. [Possibly excepting the Hornets/Pelicans who stupided up their 'history'.]

Nets who have come and gone include some all-time greats who were mostly not Nets. Ranked by their career Win Shares:

Showing WS and VORP with the team, and the fraction of their career totals with the team. Also AllStar selections.
Buck W played less than half of his games here, but just over 50% of minutes.
R Jefferson is the closest to a franchise guy, though never a 'star' player.

For perspective, browse this list of 76 players with 60+ Win Shares for a franchise. Not including 'original' NBA teams -- Atl, Bos, Det, GSW, Phl, Sac, LAL, NYK -- but essentially peers of similar age.
Was goes back a few more years, and interestingly are also lacking, after Unseld/Hayes. Beal is a ways off.
Later expansion teams are included and mostly do pretty well vs the Nets.

Pacers also rival Nets in fewest entries: After Reggie, not much. But they have essentially zero superstars in their top 12. Paul George? The rest are all 'franchise guys'.
