What disqualifiers can be used to get down to the guy I want to win the MIP Award?
Love has a big lead; but this is relative to his worst season; before that he was all-NBA (2nd team), twice an All Star, and he has already won the MIP (2011)

Nothing to see here. His team is pretty weak; maybe that's enough to cost him.

Stephenson won last year's eWins improvement, and pretty handily. Got no votes for MIP, though. His teammate Paul George took it, mainly by increased minutes.

DeMarcus Cousins plays only 32 mpg, but he's 2nd in the league in Pts/36 Minute, at 26.1
He could be the only player to ever average 26 pts, 12 reb, 3 ast, and 2 steals, per 36, for a season.

Remove the 2 steals requirement, and he's joined by Shaq 2000, Kareem '72, Wilt '64, Pettit '62, and Baylor '61/62/63, in the 26-12-3 club.

I would imagine GMs values for Ilyasova are in some cases quite different. Wonder how high the Bucks are on him at this moment. I assume their valuation is still high and no one is willing to give what it will take to get him right now. I do not immediately have a strong opinion of who is right on him.

Can the Cavs get a high value for Varejao? Is it the right time to move him? Will be get a huge contract and will that be a good value for whoever gives it?

Garnett has escaped from the unimproved bottom 20, as he's been less worse than before.

Is anyone aware of MIP talk this year? Stephenson would seem like an ideal pick. If not for Love's bad year last year, Lance would head my list 2 years straight. Pretty sure that's unprecedented.

But that's 2 straight for Indiana. DMC certainly has a case, and so does Dragic.
And Steph Curry wasn't even an all-star last year, nor any other. This year, he's likely 1st team all-NBA.

6 of 10 worst declines on players who changed team within last year. Is this common for other years? Do the declines tend to last or are rebounds more common? Does it depend heavily on age?

There are always more decliners on new teams. Continuity has its rewards.
139 players who changed teams averaged .73 eW/484 last year and .67 this year. They total 5.3 fewer eWins this year than they'd have at last years rates (and this year's minutes).

The 232 players who have remained with last year's team are +18 eWins. Their average (non-minutes-weighted) e484 was .97 last year and .94 this year. The only way that can happen is that those who have declined have gotten fewer minutes, in general, while those who have improved have played more.

Looking up some other statistical improvements for the 20 players topping my list, I've just subtracted this year's rates from their career rates. While my list has compared this year to just last year (since that is relevant to things like predictions), MIP voters may be more focused on other things.

Per game averages are attention-getters, so I've listed increases in points, rebounds, and assists per game.
This season's averages and rates are included in career numbers, so 2nd-year players are highly skewed toward this current season, and their 'improvements' are necessarily muted.

Nowitzki's numbers are some of the best he's had in several years; but they're still mostly short of his career rates, largely because his minutes are down.

Again, Pts, Reb, and Ast are per-game gains -- PAR is just the sum of these.
Durant is catapulted to the top and then some, aided by the fact that he played a couple of years with low-middling WS/48.

If Durant were only as good this year as last year, he'd still show great improvement over his career rates. So an intuitive and realistic definition of improvement should probably include both over career and over last year.

In case anyone was curious, Patty Mills leads the league in "2014 xRAPM minus 2013 xRAPM" at +5.6

That's quite a jump. He's rebounding 35% more, increased steals and blocks by 20% and turns it over at 62% of last season. Last season, his +/- was +2 and his On-Off was -6. This season he's got a +/- of +11 and an On-Off of +3.7
