Giannis really played poorly.

Middleton was ok but not enough. I'd have serious thoughts on not offering the best contract. Sign n trades aren't that common but I'd explore that hard.

Nobody with the Bucks -- player or coach -- has the nerve to tell Giannis to please not drive to the basket with 3-4 defenders in there. He's likely to miss, or get fouled (just as bad). He should have had 15 assists against that defense.
Best case is that he fouls out everyone on the other team, eventually; worst is he gets hurt again.
Sad and painful to watch.

Giannis is an incredible player, but I think he is probably the most limited high-impact player in the league, and the most easily schemed for. As you say he was awful to watch, taking bad shots or going to the line and choking. Realistically Budenholzer is to blame for what happened in the series, from a Bucks perspective. They should look to hire Nurse.

Game 5, the Bucks were -8 in Giannis' 42 min. Thus +6 in the other 11 minutes.
Crazy stat, though: Miami went -10 in 46 Butler minutes; so +12 in 7 min. he sat.

Def. agree that coach Bud (and his employers) should acknowledge his failure.
Don't most coaches sort of run out of things to say after a few years?
